The chairman of the Russian State Duma is demanding 750 billion dollars in compensation from Poland for “liberation from fascist occupation”. Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that the issue of the payment of money and the return of lands granted to Poland after World War II will be considered at Monday's meeting of the Duma Council.

A politician from the United Russia party, Vyacheslav Volodin, noted in a Telegram entry that “Poland has betrayed historical memory.” The Russian parliamentarian added that “for the liberation of the country from fascist occupation” Soviet soldiers paid a “high price”.

One third of the current Polish lands – areas with developed infrastructure, industrial enterprises, and rich in natural resources – became part of it after World War II only thanks to our state” – said Wołodin.

The Russian parliamentarian added that according to today's calculations, Poland received USD 750 billion (about PLN 3.2 trillion) from the USSR for the reconstruction and development of the country. With this money, over 800 industrial, energy and transport facilities were to be built.

“Poland as a state exists only thanks to our country,” said Volodin.

The chairman of the Russian Duma also listed detailed allegations against our country. Volodin said in the post that Poles behave “wickedly” because they demolish monuments to Soviet soldiers, close Russian schools, seize Russian properties, and generally “behave rudely.”

The parliamentarian added that Warsaw “rejected common history” and “desecrated the memory” of Soviet soldiers. “Poland must return the lands gained as a result of World War II and return to our country the funds transferred to it in the war and post-war years,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.

The United Russia politician would also like to impose sanctions on Poland. “It will be right to ban Poland from earning money from Russia, and thus stopping the passage of Polish trucks on the territory of our country. Let the goods be loaded onto Russian trucks. Our citizens will earn money from transport,” he noted.

Volodin added that the Council of the State Duma of the Russian Federation will deal with the proposed demands at its Monday meeting.

Recalling the facts of the Second World War – the Russian country plundered the Polish land

In 1946, Poles estimated the losses caused by Soviet looting at 375 million dollars, and these are only those incurred in central Poland and the lost eastern territories. Including the former German territories, it was USD 2 billion 375 million according to the 1938 currency values. To this should be added the damage caused by the Red Army on Polish lands (not including the damage caused by warfare!). Their amount was calculated at USD 292.5 million.

Even if we omit the robberies in the “regained territories”, the total amounts to over 667 million. Converted to today's dollar value, it is an amount from 11 to over 54 billion (depending on the calculator used). And you still have to add interest…

FedEx in the Soviet version

The robbery sponsored by the Putin's state was accompanied by private looting by Red Army soldiers. In order to establish some sort of order, the People's Commissariat of Defense introduced special regulations regulating this practice in late 1944.

According to them, exemplary soldiers could send a trophy package once a month. Its weight depended on the step. For privates it was 5 kg. Officers – as Antony Beevor stated in the book “Berlin 1945. Fall” – could send a package twice as large. No limits were applied to the generals and officers of the SMERSH units. There were times when senior officers even sent whole wagonloads of booty home.

And what were the most popular souvenirs? It was mainly food, clothes, shoes, radios, tableware, dishes, bedding, bicycles, watches, and even nails, windows and toilet seats. The scale of this export was also huge.
