Russia carried out an intensive air attack on Kyiv at night and in the morning. Several people are injured.
The airstrikes took place in the night from Monday to Tuesday and in the early hours of the morning.
“It was unique in its intensity – the maximum number of missiles attacking in the shortest time” Serhiy Popko, head of the Kyiv city military administration, wrote on Telegram. “According to preliminary information, the vast majority of enemy targets in Kyiv's airspace have been detected and destroyed!” — added.
It is not known how many objects were shot down over the city and whether any of them managed to hit their target.
Vitaly Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, said the falling debris set fire to several cars and damaged a building in the Solomiysk district in the west of the capital. Three people were injured.
Klitschko said that south of Boryspol, air defense systems repulsed the drone attack. The city located southeast of Kyiv is home to the capital's main passenger airport, which is currently closed. The damage in other districts was not significant and there was no immediate information about potential casualties, the military administration said.
Air-raid sirens sounded across Ukraine in the early hours of Tuesday morning and were heard over Kyiv and its region for more than three hours.
In a night attack by Russia, Ukraine's air defense forces destroyed 18 missiles of various types, including six Kinzhal hypersonic cruise missiles, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Valery Zaluzhny, said on Tuesday morning. Russian troops used ground-launched missiles, aircraft, and ships.
“Six MiG-31 K aircraft fired six supersonic missiles Ch-47M2 Kinzhal, nine cruise missiles Kalibr (launched) from ships in the Black Sea and three rockets from land launchers (S-400, Iskander-M)” - wrote Zaluzny in Telegram.
“All 18 missiles were destroyed by the forces and means of air defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” he highlighted.
