The Ukrainian state operator Ukrenerho has initiated emergency power outages across the country. The cause is a shortage of energy due to attacks by Russian forces on power plants.
The electricity was turned off throughout Ukraine. "Energy shortage after Russian attacks"
On the evening of May 14, emergency power interruptions were implemented in all regions of Ukraine due to an energy shortage caused by Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure. Another reason is an increase in electricity consumption due to a temperature drop in Ukraine. - From 6:40 to 9 o'clock, Ukrenerho implemented controlled emergency power outages for industrial and individual consumers in all regions of Ukraine - Ukrainians were informed.
The CEO of Ukrenerho, Volodymyr Kudrytsky, stated on a Ukrainian telethon that Ukraine has lost a significant amount of power in its power plants, and currently, there is a shortage.
For some time, Ukrainian industry has been experiencing power outages, but most ordinary residents have not felt the lack of electricity.
There are several ways to compensate for this. For example, commercial imports from European companies. If that's not enough, Ukrenerho can seek emergency assistance from neighboring countries, or we can limit energy consumption by industrial consumers. But when there is little electricity, we must limit electrical energy not only for industry but also for residents - he said.
Ukrainians say they did not expect power interruptions, but they do not last long. - Fortunately, we already have some experience from last year. When new attacks on the power grid began, we were prepared. My husband and I always have a charged portable power station at home now. Additionally, we always have charged power banks. Yesterday's power outage was not pleasant, of course, but nothing catastrophic happened - said Julia, a resident of Kyiv.
I was somewhat surprised by yesterday's power outage. However, it did not last long, and I had all my devices charged, so everything is fine. I now have a habit of charging all electrical devices, just in case - comments Anna, a resident of Poltava.
On May 15, Ukrenerho announced the introduction of emergency power cuts for residents and industrial consumers in the evening hours, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. As of today, schedules of power restrictions for industrial consumers will be in effect from 12:00 AM to 10:00 AM and from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
Today, emergency assistance from EU countries was applied from 12:00 AM to 07:00 AM. A record volume of imports with maximum power is also planned. Imports from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and Moldova are expected to increase throughout the day.
