Ukrainians face mortal danger if Western countries do not continue financial support, warned Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska in an interview with the BBC. She referred to the recent decision of the US Senate regarding the aid package for her country.
If the world gets tired (of helping), it will simply leave us to die
said Olena Zelenska.
The BBC interview was conducted a day after the US Senate blocked the aid package for Ukraine.
- We really need this help. Simply put, we cannot get tired of this situation, because if we do, we will die, Zelenska said. The interview with the Ukrainian first lady will be broadcast in full on Sunday.
A few days ago, the US Senate rejected the aid package for Ukraine. The bill containing USD 61 billion did not obtain a majority to proceed further. During the vote, not all Republicans supported the project - the reason is that the bill did not include tightening immigration policy.
When voting on the bill, 50 Democratic senators were in favor and 49 Republican senators were against. The required majority was 60 votes.
