Cate Blanchett Named 'Lesbian Icon'

Cate Blanchett reacted hilariously to being called a "lesbian icon". The actress received critical acclaim for her portrayal of lesbians in the films Carol and Tar. From The Lord of the Rings trilogy to The Aviator and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Cate Blanchett is one of the most famous and successful actresses in the world. Overall, she received a total of seven Academy Award nominations and won two Oscars: Best Supporting Actress in 2005 for The Aviator and Best Actress in 2014 for Blue Jasmine.

As of 2023, Blanchett is once again the leader, winning an Oscar for her stellar performance in Tara. In the film, she plays Lydia Tar, a well-known composer and conductor who, according to the plot, turned out to be a lesbian. Blanchett is also remembered for playing a lesbian role in the 2015 film Carol.

During a recent interview with Attitude, Blanchett was asked to comment on some of the posts by LGBTQ+ representatives who call her a "lesbian icon". The actress replied, “Yes, baby! It's so cute! I don't know what that means, but it's nice."

Critics rated the last film "Tar" in the role with Kate very high marks. Blanchett's acting in the film has already earned her a 2023 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Film and a 2023 Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. This makes Blanchett the absolute leader in the Best Actress category at the 2023 Academy Awards.

In addition to the Blanchett awards, Tar is also up for Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.

Some people in the LGBTQ+ community hold the principle that queer actors should be given the opportunity to play LGBTQ+ characters on television and in films. With that said, it's also widely debated that Blanchett had the unique opportunity to play such a special character as Lydia Tar and was probably the only choice for the film, even at the very beginning of its making.
