The first delivery of F-16 fighters from NATO allies has arrived in Ukraine, the Americans announced. This is a long-awaited move that could increase Kiev's ability to resist Russian attacks.
The first F-16s have arrived in Ukraine
Media reports indicate that the F-16 aircraft promised by allies have already arrived in Ukraine. However, the number of aircraft has not been disclosed.
According to Bloomberg, the first delivery of F-16 fighters from NATO allies has reached Ukraine. Sources for the agency added that the number of delivered aircraft is small. The delivery was scheduled for the end of the current month, and the deadline was met.
“It is unclear whether the Ukrainian pilots, who have been trained over the past few months by Western allies, will be able to immediately deploy these aircraft, or if this process will take more time”
Bloomberg wrote, citing its sources.
This is a long-awaited step that will certainly improve Ukraine's capabilities. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, there have been reports of Ukrainian pilots being trained by NATO partners, but the exact date of the fighters' transfer had remained uncertain.
A few days ago, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken mentioned that the transfer of F-16 aircraft from Denmark and the Netherlands to Ukraine was already underway. According to announcements, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium plan to deliver over 60 such aircraft to Ukraine.
In early July, reports emerged that the fighters were already on Ukrainian territory. Russians allegedly saw them on their radars, which led to intensified attacks. However, it turned out that the Ukrainian army was merely simulating their presence to mislead the enemy.
Oleksandr Musienko, head of the Center for Military-Legal Research of Ukraine, revealed that his team possesses technology that allows them to simulate the presence of these aircraft, disrupting the work of Russian commanders and consequently lowering the morale of enemy soldiers.
